Monte Real Gran Reserva 2011
Today it’s time for another 100% Tempranillo from the Rioja region. Monte Real Gran Reserva 2011 is a well-matured wine that spends between 24-30 months in American oak casks to mature, before an additional maturation of at least 36 months in the bottle.
I’ve tried quite some Riojas, in prices from just a couple of euro’s up to tens of euro’s and I’ve found out that price doesn’t always say much over the quality of the wine, there some amazing cheap ones. This is not the cheapest Rioja you can find, but also not the most expensive one, especially for a Gran Reserva. So let’s find out how it tastes.

My Notes:
Good Gran Reserva Rioja! Full with deep flavours of blackcurrant, oak, vanilla, and some licorice. There is pepper, pine, toast, balsamic, and delicious dark chocolate as well as black fruits like plum, blackberry accompanied by fig cherry and tobacco. Looking for a full, well-matured wine to accompany some roasted meat, then this is great!
Grape Dummies Score!
