Empirio Primitivo di Manduria 2018

Empirio Primitivo di Manduria 2018

My parents went on vacation and when they came back, they usually take a present for every member of the family. My dad knows I’m a huge fan of Primitivo because he is reading our website. As I couldn’t resist letting the wine stay a while in the cellar. I decided to immediately open it!

Vinicola Mediterranea is located near San Pietro Vernotico, a village in Salento. The name of the winery matches perfectly with the Mediterranean ecosystem you can find over there. Thanks to a warm sun and a sea breeze from the Adriatic sea, the zone is a natural gift and offers a perfect climate for winemaking. This is a relatively young winery, founded in 1997 by Guiseppe Marangio and Vito Epifani. These guys were both already involved with wine-making but together they were determined to create their own business. At the start, the wines were only made for the Italian market. In 2000 they began to bottle their wines and export worldwide, and on this day they produce a lot of wine varieties.

My Notes:

A lovely Primitivo! A nice medium ruby colour in the glass. Good looking wine. Notes of black fruits like plum and blackberry. Also some notes of cherry, raspberry and some oaky notes. A hint of vanilla and chocolate, a little bit spicy. The wine has got a good length on the finish. Very pleasant wine and enjoyable to drink on any occasion. Enjoy!
