Caldora Montepulciano D’Abruzzo 2019
A couple of weeks back I was checking the wine selection at a local supermarket. All the wines had nice spots and prices placed, but next to the shelves on the floor, half-hidden behind a box there was this wine standing. Caldora Montepulciano D’Abruzzo. There was no price to be found, and the price scanner also didn’t recognise the wine. My interest was sparked so I decided to take the bottle with me.
This is a 100% Montepulciano wine, even though the DOC allows Montepulciano D’Abruzzo to contain up to 15% Sangiovese. There is no oak involved in the production of the wine. Caldora is part of Fantini Group Farnese, a big Italian wine producer. Let’s just give it a taste.

My Notes:
My first Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, and to be honest I was expecting something more. There was blackberry, cheese, cherry and some chocolate. Also some cinnamon and smoke. This version is a little bit unbalanced and overly tannic to my taste. Perhaps not my favourite, but I’m still happy I picked up the bottle to try.
