Agustí Torelló Mata Gran Reserva 2013

Agustí Torelló Mata Gran Reserva 2013

Looking through our recent reviews I realized it has been a time since we reviewed any Sparkling wine. That of course has to change, so today I’ll review the Agustí Torelló Mata Gran Reserva 2013. This Cava is made with 45% Macabeu, 20% Xarel·lo and 35% Parellada grapes.

The grapes are vinified at the winery, each variety separately with its own yeasts for 28 days. After that, the second fermentation takes place in the bottle with the lees for 6 years. Resulting in a well matured Cava. This is classified as a Brut Nature, without any added sugar. If you’ve been around longer on our GrapeDummies website then you perhaps remember I earlier reviewed the Agustí Torelló Mata Barrica Gran Reserva 2014, make sure to this review out as well, as there slight differences between these two Gran Reserva’s.

My notes:

This is where good cava is all about, lemon, green apple, toast, brioche, butter, and a touch of yeast. Mango, pear, and some almonds are mixed with stone and fennel. Delicious and refreshing Cava! If I had to choose between this one and the Barrica Gran Reserva I personally prefer that one a little bit more, but it’s also more expensive, making this a great substitution!
