Agustí Torelló Mata UBAC Gran Reserva 2015

Agustí Torelló Mata UBAC Gran Reserva 2015

Tomorrow June 12th, 2021 it’s International Cava day! So to celebrate this ocasion we share today this review of the Agustí Torelló Mata UBAC Gran Reserva 2015. And that’s not all, if you’ll come back here tomorrow on International Cava day we will have a new episode of GrapeDummies Between the Grapes, where we visit Agustí Torelló Mata! One of the Cavas that I tasted at the winery was this UBAC Gran Reserva.

The UBAC Gran Reserva gets its name from the plot where the Parellada grapes for this Cava are grown. The plot can be found in the highest part of Penedès at 500 meters above sea level. Besides the Parellada (33%), Macabeu (48%) and Xarel·lo (19%) are used as well. As 2015 was a colder year than usual, the Macabeu did very well with all the precipitation which is the reason for the bigger part in the blend. Xarel·lo had problems retaining the water which results in a smaller part in this vintage. The second fermentation is for at least 5 years in the cellar.

My notes:

Delicious soft Cava. There is yeast, toasted bread, apple, and some lemon. Further, I get stone,n brioche, and a touch of raspberry. Delicious and well-matured cava! As this is a “Brut” it’s perhaps a touch sweeter compared to the “Brut Nature” releases, but it’s absolutely not overly sweet.
