Alto Siós 2017
Over the months of reviewing wines here on the GrapeDummies website, I’ve come across a couple of wines from the Costers del Sió winery. This is a local winery in the Costers del Segre DO, and I always think it’s interesting to discover wines that are locally produced.
I’ve tasted the Cau del Gat and Bosc Silvestre before, and the Alto Siós was always on my wishlist. So I was happy to get to taste it on the vineyard visit we planned for our GrapeDummies Between the grapes series! The visit to the Costers del Sió winery will be up here very soon!
Now looking at this week’s review, the Alto Siós. This is a blend of 60% Syrah, 30% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha. The malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels, while it’s matured in French oak barrels. Time to find out how it tastes.

My notes:
Finally I got to try the Alto Siós. A blend of 60% Syrah, 30% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha and these grapes work great together. Matured in French oak for 12 months. There are loads of dark fruit, bramble, cassis, plum as well as licorice. There is oak influence, with some chocolate as well as leather, grilled meat and prunes. Very well balanced and deliciously soft on the tongue. A wine great to share with friends.
