Anna de Codorníu Blanc de Noirs – Tasting Journal

Cavas are often my go-to sparkling wines. Today I will taste de Anna de Codorníu Blanc de Noirs. Here in Spain, I can get I wide variety and some of the prices can be very interesting. Today I taste a Cava that is made by using 100% Pinot Noir grapes. Yes indeed, a white cava made with red grapes. These grapes come from vineyards with a continental climate. There is a big difference between day and night temperatures, which results in a harvest around the middle of August, and always at night so as to keep the grapes as cool as possible and in this way retain their full fragrance and avoid oxidation and spontaneous fermentations.

My Notes:

Beautiful medium golden colour, a fraction darker than most cavas. Lovely apples, these red apples are clearly the most obvious note in this wine. Further, there are pears, a hint of yeast and fresh-baked bread. I also get strawberries and an interesting touch of lime. Very nice cava with a lovely twist because of the use of Pinot Noir grapes. So this is absolutely not your standard style Cava, it has more body to it. And that is nice, though perhaps not always what you’re looking for in a cava. I’ll make sure to keep it around for some occasions!

Grape Dummies Score:

3,5 Grapes
