Barista Pinotage 2020

Barista Pinotage 2020

When I saw the name Barista, I was for a second thinking, what is this, are we about to drink coffee or wine today? Well, luckily I’m about to share our new wine review with you all. Barista is a Pinotage from South Africa, a first for us. Pinotage is a crossbred of Pinot Noir and Cinsaut (known as Hermitage in South Africa).

Barista is created by winemaker Bertus Fourie. He earned the nickname ‘Starbucks’ for his exceptional skill in producing the coffee-flavoured Barista Pinotage. I do enjoy a good coffee, so I’m very curious how this will be in a red wine.

My Notes:

Today we tried a South African Pinotage, an interesting new style for me. I get coffee, chocolate, cherry, raisin, plum, balsamic, and tomato. A touch of oak, tobacco, and leather. Further some cheese, citrus, and tropical notes, this wine really goes all over the spectrum. Even some apple and raspberry on the palate. I have to spend some more time with this style to really understand if I like it or not.
