Baronia del Montsant Englora 603.8 2017

A couple of weeks back I went with some friends to visit the Cellers Baronia del Montsant, not far from home in the DO Montsant. The Montsant DO is an interesting one, as in a small region there are different types of soils to be found. You have the slate soils known as Llicorella, which are well known because they are also found in the bordering DOQ Priorat, further, there are lime-stone-based soils with high clay content and gravelly soils. Within the DO Montsant, you can find a great variety of different wine styles, and it was interesting to taste some of them during our visit.

For this week’s review, I chose the Baronia del Montsant Englora 603.8 which was one of my favourites during the tour. It’s a blend of Garnatxa, Samsó and Syrah, aged for 10 months in oak.

A nice blend of three red grapes, Garnatxa, Samsó and Syrah. There is some nice oak influence, further there are cherry, chocolate, leather and some earthy notes. Prunes, fig, pepper and bramble can also be found with a hint of licorice. Blackberry, plum and a touch of cedar as well.
