Caño Alta Expresion 2018

If you have been following the GrapeDummies over the last couple of years you might have already heard of the Toro region in the Duero valley in the North of Spain. If not, then you need to know that Toro is a small DO near the Spanish Tempranillo style regions of Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Their style is very similar, but it’s not as well known by the larger public.
The Caño Alta Expresion 2018 is made with old Tempranillo vines, the grapes are harvested by hand and sorted at the winery, and the wine is then transferred to oak barrels where malolactic fermentation takes place. In general, I really like the Tempranillo wines so let’s taste this one.

My notes:
Good Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo). There was cherry, strawberry, blueberry and a hint of chocolate. Balsamic and further plum. Next time you come across a Toro make sure to pick one up, I really enjoyed this wine, and that for a nice price.
