Castillo Mayor Gran Reserva 2015

Castillo Mayor Gran Reserva 2015

The wine buyer from Aldi supermarkets has probably got a good knowledge of wines. Aldi is known as a supermarket with offers for low prices. Their wines are also in the lower pricing category and this distinguished-looking bottle, a black luxury label with a gold print, is definitely an eye-catcher.

Bodegas Ignacio Marín is the winery from this wine. The family vineyard of Ignacio Marín is a vineyard with a rich history in the Spanish soils of D.O. Cariñera. In the early 1900s, the winery was founded by Ignacio Marín. Since 1903 they are producing wines at a high level with different labels. Their vineyards are right in the heart of the region of Cariñena and have got an average altitude of 600 meters. Pioneering is still very important for the winery. Producing high-quality wines in combination with sensitivity, knowledge, imagination and technology are the key ingredients to produce their wines.

My Notes:

A nice oaky wine. With flavours of vanilla, tobacco and chocolate in this wine. Also a lot of dark fruit like plum and blackberry. Some earthy notes like leather. A hint of cherry and some cinnamon. A bold wine that’s good on the tannins and has nice acidity. For me a nice 3.5 Grape Dummies Score. If you only take a look at the price/quality label you may give it even a 4.0 or 4.5 Grape Dummies Score! You get worth it in your glass. So I say let’s go to your local Aldi supermarket and buy this wine. Enjoy!

Grape Dummies Score:

3.5 Grapes
