Catena Appellation Tupungato Chardonnay 2021

Catena Appellation Tupungato Chardonnay 2021

The Catena Zapata winery was founded in 1902 by an Italian, Nicola Catena. For more than 100 years and already four generations of the Catena family are in charge of the winery. The Catena family really made a huge step when the third-generation son, Nicolás, became in charge as head of the winery.

For this wine, the grapes have been chosen from vineyards in Tupungato, which are planted at different heights. The highest vineyards are at 1500 meters and give freshness. The lower vineyards are still at about 1000 meters and give the Chardonnay a fat and rounded character. All wine is aged in oak barrels, of which one-third are new. The malic acid fermentation is only partially carried out, in order to retain the fresh elements, in addition to the rich ones.

My Notes:

A very pleasant chardonnay wine with a tasting profile that matches my white wine preferences. The wine is buttery, with a little bit of honey and creamy. A full-bodied white wine. Oaky notes of vanilla. Tree fruits like peach, apple and pear. Further notes of citrus, lemon and pineapple. A deserved 4.0 Grape Dummies score.
