Clos Maria Blanc 2016

Clos Maria Blanc 2016

Clos Maria Blanc 2016 is the wine I’ve chosen to review this week. It’s a white wine from the Montsant region, the lesser-known neighbour of the DOQ Priorat. Montsant shares a lot of similarities with Priorat, and the vineyards of Clos Maria also have “llicorella” slate soils.

For this white wine, Clos Maria uses a couple of white variety grapes. Garnatxa Blanc, Macabeu and Muscat Blanc. During harvest, the grapes are hand-picked, with clusters being manually sorted in the vineyard and in the winery. Cold maceration for 6 hours after which it co-fermented in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged in stainless steel for 12 months and 24 months in the bottle.

My Notes:

A white wine from the Montsant region. These vines grow just a couple 100 meters from the border of the Priorat region, creating a very similar style, though as white wine, I haven’t tasted that often. There is loads of honey, pear, minerals and melon. Yeast, banana, pineapple and tropical fruits in general. There is a lovely pale golden colour on this blend of different white grapes. Absolutely not your average white wine, very interesting to drink slightly chilled for the upcoming spring!
