Clos Pons Alges 2015

Clos Pons Alges 2015

This week we go for a nicely aged wine from the Costers del Segre region. For the base, the vineyard choose Garnatxa, with Syrah and Tempranillo being added to it. The weather conditions around Albagés, the town where the vineyard is located are extreme with hot summers and cold winters.

While researching this wine I found out that Clos Pons is an interesting vineyard that I want to discover more about, as they aren’t just a vineyard, they also make their own olive oil, vinegar and paprika. So I might try to visit this vineyard in the near future.

Facts:

Type: Red
Wine: Clos Pons Alges 2015
Producer: Clos Pons
Region: Costers del Segre, Spain
Grape: Garnacha, Syrah, Tempranillo
Colour: Deep Ruby
Price: €12,50
ABV: 14,5%

My notes:

Very nice Costers del Segre. The base grape is Garnatxa with some Syrah and Tempranillo added. Deep plum flavours, as well as licorice, jam and minerals. There is chocolate, oak, blackcurrant, prune and some pepper, even a touch of marmalade. Great wine. For me between 4 and 4,5 grapes.
