Costers del Priorat Clos Cypres 2019

Costers del Priorat Clos Cypres 2019

A couple of weeks back my parents came over to visit us here in Spain, and we decided to take them for a vineyard visit to Priorat. We decided to go to the Costers del Priorat vineyard and we weren’t disappointed, it was a lovely vineyard to visit with a long history of winemaking.

After the tour, we went to taste some of the wines made here (see the photo) and one of them was this Costers del Priorat Clos Cypres. A 100% Samsó (Cariñena) from old vines from their Sant Martí vineyard. Named after the cypres trees in the town of Bellmunt.

The youngest vines in this vineyard were planted in 2000, while the oldest ones have been there since 1934. The vinification takes place in barrels of 500 liters, where subsequently malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously. The wine is aged in the same barrels for 12 months.

My Notes:

This is an amazing, warming and deep Priorat. Licorice, chocolate, oak, leather, plum, blackcurrant all mingle together and express themselves, in there due time. A touch of minerals, cedar, dried fruit, balsamic and some figs. A wine to sip and enjoy as every new sip brings different notes. Expensive, but amazing for those special occasions!
