Donjon de Lamarque 2011

Donjon de Lamarque 2011

For today’s review we will go to one of the most famous wine regions in the world, Bordeaux. After some four months of sharing our dummies views of wine with you the time has come to dive into a Bordeaux with you.

This Donjon de Lamarque is created by Château de Lamarque using a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, they usually bleed of a portion of the wine after a short time of contact with the grape skins. This results in a better fruit concentration for the wine, while the other portion will be vinified separately to create a rosé wine.

The wine is matured for 12 to 14 months in French oak barriques. This all results is the Donjon de Lamarque. I’m interested to find out which notes I will get.

My Notes:

This is a Haut-Medoc with loads of vanilla from the maturation in oak. The blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon results in a deep bold wine. It has a medium garnet colour and is full of plum, earthy notes, blackberry, blackcurrant and some cherry. Further, I also find some dried herbs, tomato leaf, toast and some pepper. An interesting style that I’m planning to keep on exploring.
