Emilio Moro 2017 – Tasting Journal

Emilio Moro 2017 – Tasting Journal

The situation: After a busy week of work it was finally Friday afternoon. My wife and I had to buy a couple of things in the shopping area of our city. We had something to celebrate, after a couple of months in which we had been financially tight because my wife was in between jobs we decided today we could celebrate things were back to normal. Time for some fine dining at Xalet Suis in Lleida.

After a look at the wine list, I found this 2017 Emilio Moro from the Ribera del Duero, Spain. This is one of my favourite regions, and I have never tried this wine, an easy choice. Emilio Moro is made from middle-age vineyards, of 100% Tempranillo grapes. This 2017 vintage is exceptional and unique due to the frosts of 2017. The harvest only produced 50% of the total possible production from the vineyard, but this resulted in the maximum quality from the grape. The wine is aged in both French and American oak.

My Notes:

Ribera del Duero does it time and time again for me, perhaps not the most famous Spanish region, but one well worth exploring. This is an amazing wine, expect lovely vanillas from the oak influence. I get black currant and plums. Give this wine some time to open up for it to deliver more and more fruity notes every time. There is a slight hint of raisins and some fresh cocoa on the nose. I highly recommend this 100% Tempranillo wine!

Grape Dummies Score:

4,5 Grapes
