Emilio Moro Malleolus 2017

Emilio Moro Malleolus 2017

Emilio Moro was probably the first slightly more expensive wine that I tasted (you can find my review here), and since that moment I’ve been following the winery, as I love their warming, Tempranillo wines from Ribera del Duero.

Malleolus is one of the top releases from Emilio Moro, the name comes from the Latin word malleolus which means small parcels. The 2017 vintage was challenging for the vineyard as the yields were reduced to 50%, but the grapes that survived were of very high quality. For Malleolus, Emilio Moro uses grapes from their older vines with ages between 25 and 75 years old. The wine is matured in French oak barrels for 18 months.

My notes:

100% Tinta Fino (Tempranillo) from the Ribera del Duero region. Such a bold wine full of all kinds of flavours. Leather, oak, tobacco plum start out on the nose. Further, there is pepper, blackberry, balsamic, cheese, cherry, strawberry and a touch of chocolate. I really enjoyed the licorice, cream, and almonds. Orange zest, prune, blackcurrant and raisins can also be found. Amazing wine matured in French oak, and delicious with duck!
