Enate Chardonnay 234 2018 – Tasting Journal

Enate Chardonnay 234 2018 – Tasting Journal

Today I will review the Enate Chardonnay 234, my first white wine in our tasting journal. In stores I generally go for red wine instead of white wine, but I choose this bottle to expand my horizons, and (spoiler alert) I’m happy I did.

Enate uses 100% Chardonnay grapes from the Somontano region in the province of Aragon, Spain for this wine. The 2018 harvest began later than normal due to the delay in vegetation development of the vines, after a wet spring and colder temperatures in May an June. But because of the warm and dry summer, the grapes could ripen fully. These Chardonnay grapes were harvested at night, and at the winery, they were sent to the pneumatic press where they underwent maceration for a period of 5 hours.

Time to find out what this all resulted in, let’s start with looking at the facts before we continue with my notes.

Facts:

Type: White
Wine: Enate Chardonnay 234 2018
Producer: Enate
Region: Somontano, Spain
Grape: Chardonnay
Colour: Pale yellow
Price: €8,00
ABV: 14%

My Notes:

This white wine from Somontano is full of green apples. A fresh wine with loads of fruitiness. Further, I get some citrus fruits and peach with a hint of vanilla. Especially on the palate, it’s like you’re eating apples without chewing. This wine opened my eyes for white wines and I will make sure to include them more often in my reviews. Now let’s talk about the score, I’m doubting between 3,5 and 4,0 Grapes. But considering the packaging and price, I’ve decided 4,0 grapes are valid.

Grape Dummies Score:

4.0 Grapes
