Enate Reserva 2011

Enate Reserva 2011

This week we go to the Somontano region in the north of Spain, just under the Pyrenees in Aragon for this review of the Enate Reserva 2011. Sometimes my inlaws come up with some bottles that they had stored somewhere that no one knew about anymore, and this bottle was one of those. Enate is an interesting bodega with a wide variety of wines, and they use a lot of different grapes as well. I’ve reviewed their Enate Chardonnay 234 2018 before.

This Reserva is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented at 28 degrees C in stainless steel tanks. The malolactic fermentation took place in new French oak barrels, in which the wine also aged for 12 months.

Now early 2022 this wine has had a total maturation for over 10 years, so I’m very curious how this Cabernet Sauvignon has developed itself. Let’s give it a taste.

My notes:

Very interesting Cabernet Sauvignon from the Somontano region in the north of Spain. A Reserva with 12 months of maturation in new French oak. There is cherry, licorice, cassis, plum and a touch of vanilla and toast. I also get leather, smoke, pepper and dark chocolate. Some prunes, blackberry and almonds as well as raspberry. Bell pepper and a touch of acidity from grapefruit and orange make this a very complete wine. One of the most interesting Cabernet Sauvignon I’ve tasted.

GrapeDummies Score:

4,5 Grapes
