Faustino VII Tempranillo 2018
This week it’s time to take a look at the Faustino VII Tempranillo 2018 from La Rioja. This is a bottle that you can find in almost every store here in Spain. Of course, we like to taste a wide variety of bottles and look sometimes for the ones unknown, but in this case I thought, if it’s so popular it must mean that it can’t be very bad.
Bodegas Faustino decides to mature this wine for a minimum of six months in American Oak casks. Now early 2020 it’s still a young wine, especially for Rioja. I’ve decided to open this wine on one of the colder spring evenings here in Spain, I put some logs in our outdoor bbq/fireplace and enjoyed the evening there. Let’s take some time now to discover its flavours.

My Notes:
This is an interesting 100% Tempranillo. I get cherry and strawberry. This wine is light in colour. A lovely fresh wine with some plum, blackberry, chocolate oak and vanilla. Raspberry and a hint of smoke, even some oregano and leather. An easy to drink Rioja, you can taste it’s still quite young, but in this case, that’s nothing bad, there is also a time for that style of wine. Don’t expect something very complex but it’s recommendable for the price!
