Freixenet Vintage Reserva 2015

Freixenet Vintage Reserva 2015

Freixenet is one of the biggest Cava producers in the world, and it actually made the first Cava I ever tried, way before we started the GrapeDummies. For this Sparkling Wine Week I taste not one of their entry level Cava’s but the Freixenet Vintage Reserva Brut Nature.

This Brut Nature (which means there is no added sugar, something I really recommend you to look for in a Cava, cause, in general, those are my favourites), is a blend of the three popular Cava grapes Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada. They ferment individually after which they’re blended together for their second maturation of 18 months in the bottle.

My notes:

Freixenet is one of the biggest Cava houses, but this was a bottle I hadn’t seen before. 18 months on its lees. There is toast, brioche, butter, apple, pear, and some lemon. A touch of straw, pineapple and yeast. Minerals and some citrus. This is a good Cava, very good perhaps even if you consider the price.
