Hacienda Solano Selección 2017

Hacienda Solano Selección 2017

This week we go to the Ribera del Duero region, for the Hacienda Solano Selección 2017. Ribero del Duero is famous for it’s long on oak matured Tempranillo wines, and this wine also has a solid base of Tempranillo (98%), but the interesting thing is that it also has 2% of Albillo, a white grape. It’s actually the first time that we taste this grape here on the GrapeDummies website, but with only 2% in the mix I’m not sure how much we can get the grape in the tasting notes.

The Hacienda Solano Seleccion is matured for 8 months in French oak barrels of 225 en 500L, let’s give it a taste.

My notes:

Interesting Ribera del Duero from Tempranillo and a touch of Albillo. I get blueberry, vanilla, oak, cherry and some cocoa. There is further licorice, chocolate and some plum. A mix of red fruit and black fruit works out great. I’m curious to try out a 100% Albillo wine soon, to find out which influence this grape had on this wine.
