Marqués de Riscal Rioja Reserva 2016
A very popular wine of the winehouse of Herederos del Marqués de Riscal. If not the most popular wine of this winehouse. This winehouse is one of the oldest winehouses in the Rioja region. The history of this winehouse goes back to 1858, when Herederos del Marqués de Riscal was founded.
Marqués de Riscal Reserva wines are mainly made from grapes from Tempranillo vines, who are planted before the 1970s. The grapes are grown in the clay-limestone soils of the Rioja Alavesa. The other grape that is in this wine is the Graciano. The Graciano variety does not exceed 10%. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 26 degrees. Riscal reservas spend around two years in American Oak Barrels, producing a wine which corresponds to a classic Rioja style. Before release for sale, it spends a minimum of one year rounding off in the bottle. Time enough to show how much complexity tempranillo is able to achieve.

My Notes:
What a beautiful Rioja wine this is. Lovely full-bodied wine with a lot of oaky notes like tobacco and chocolate. Further notes are leather and smoke. Also a lot of dark fruit like blackberry and plum. Some red fruit notes like cherry and cranberry. A lit touch of vanilla and a little pepper on the side. This is a wine you have to try! A 4.5 Grape Dummies Score!
