Matayac Cahors Malbec 2019

This week the GrapeDummies are in France, so what better than to review a French wine. This week we go for a Malbec from Cahors. The Matayac Cahors Malbec 2019.
Malbec is a grape originally from France, even though nowadays it’s more common in the New World, especially in Argentina. The region of Cahors in the South-West of France is an exception for this move, and it is still famous for its Malbecs. So when I found this Malbec in a local supermarket I had to give it a try.
The Cadurcien vineyard where these Malbecs grow is divided in two sections, a limestone plateau and terreces on the banks of the river Lot. The wine also matures for six months in oak barrels.

My notes:
This is a great wine to accompany with some red meat, barbecue or other strong flavours. I get notes of blackcurrant, leather, plum, oak, cherry and some raisins. A hint of eucalyptus, nuts, smoke and bell pepper are there as well. This was a great wine for just under 4 euros.
