Pagus Bisano Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore 2019
Pagus Bisano is a label from the Cantine di Verona group, also known as Cantina Valpantena. Cantina Valpantena was founded in 1958, a relatively short period of time for most of the winemakers. But they made a lot of progress over the years, by acquiring several other wineries during the years. That’s how the group Cantine di Verona started. So they could bring several labels from one group.
As we’re reviewing a wine from the Pagus Bisano label, we’re now looking at a Ripasso Superiore wine. The difference between a normal Ripasso and a Ripasso Superiore is the additional barrel ageing of six months. The normal Ripasso is ageing on wood for 12 months, and the Superiore for 18 months. This wine is made from the grapes Corvina and Rondinella.

My Notes:
The first thing you notice is that the wine is quite light, like a young wine. It is a smooth wine, which is low in tannins and acidity. Altough it’s pleasent wine, which drinks well. The wine has got a lot of flavours. Oaky notes like tobacco, chocolate and vanilla. Red fruit like cherry and strawberry. Black fruit like plum and blackberry. Further on some leather, pepper and dried fruit like raisin. Definitely a wine with potential!
