Perelada Finca la Garriga 2016

Perelada Finca la Garriga 2016

A region we haven’t visited before on our site is Emporda, just south of the border with France in Spain. We taste the Perelada Finca La Garriga 2016, a single vineyard estate wine with Samsó vines of over 50 years old. Samsó is a Catalan name for the Cariñena/Carignan grapes.

The vineyard has flat silt and clay soils with sand and gravel with a neutral pH. This expression is made with 100% Samsó grapes and aged for 24 months in American oak barrels.

My notes:

This is an interesting wine, with loads of deep and warming flavours. There is the wood influence, with oak, and chocolate, but also balsamic, earthy notes as well as cherry, blueberry, delicious licorice and pepper. Some prune and toast even a hint of marzipan. A great single vineyard expression!
