Perinet Merit 2016

Last year in June we were able to visit the Perinet winery in the Priorat. Make sure to check out our article in GrapeDummies between the grapes as well as our review of the Perinet 2016.
During this visit I was able to taste some more wines, and I also want to share this Perinet Merit with you. The Merit is a blend of mostly Merlot (35%) and Syrah (30%). With some added Garnatxa (19%) and Carinyena (16%) to add depth and structure to the wine. The wine is aged for 1 year in stainless steel tanks to build a rounded mouthfeel from the lees. The intent was to express fruitiness with no influence of oak, showcasing the aromas of the iron and minerality of the soil. This wine is unfined and unfiltered. Now let’s see if in the notes I’m able to find this intent.

My Notes:
This Priorat is created mostly created with Merlot and Syrah grapes. Further, there is also a touch of Garnatxa and Carinyena. Aged for 12 months on the lees in stainless steel tanks. Loads of cherry, leather, and blueberry. Minerals from the licorella soil of the vineyards. Some almonds, plum, and strawberry. Like winemaker Antoni Sánches-Ortiz intended, a clean wine without oak influence.
