Pinord Red/Bat 2018 – Tasting Journal

Pinord Red/Bat 2018 – Tasting Journal

In Spain we can only find two DOCa (the highest qualification level) regions, one is the famous La Rioja, a region which you can expect soon to be featured in our tasting journal, the second one is Priorat. Priorat is a region in Catalonia not far from the city of Tarragona.

Today we will taste the Pinord Red/Bat 2018, a biodynamic wine. An interesting name for a wine, which is named after a species of bat that was introduced into the ecosystem of the vineyards where Pinord grows their grapes, this bat feeds precisely on the insects that attack the vines. This enabled Pinord to avoid the use of pesticides and produce a wine which was not only ecological but also biodynamic.

My Notes:

A bold biodynamic expression from Pinord. This Red/Bat has a deep purple colour. I get loads of cherries and some raspberries. There is an earthy and mineral note to the wine as well, this is all resulting in an interesting mix of fruitiness with savoury notes. A solid 4 stars from me for this dry and sometimes challenging wine, recommendable and pretty affordable.
