Portada Winemaker’s Selection 2019
This week we’re going to taste a wine from a (for us) new wine country: Portugal. The Portada Winemaker’s Selection 2019 is a project of winemaker José Neiva Correia in the Lisboa region of the country.
It’s always great to try something new, and this wine is made of some grapes I haven’t tasted before. In total seven different grapes are used: Catelão 25%, Caladoc 25%, Syrah 20%, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) 15%, Touriga Nacional 5%, Alicante Bouschet 5%, Cabernet Sauvignon 5%. A wide variety of grapes all blended together, now it’s time to find out what that results to, when we taste the wine.

My notes:
Very fruity Portuguese red wine. Right from the start, there is cherry, raspberry, and plum. A touch of oak, licorice, and blueberry. Further, when it opens up I also get some raisin and prune. I really enjoyed this. A lot of different grapes, but they all work very well together.
