Raventós i Blanc Blanc de Blancs 2017

Raventós i Blanc Blanc de Blancs 2017

This week I want to take you to the oldest family-owned winery in Europe. Raventós i Blanc. The family estate was founded all the way back in 1497. In the coming months, we have planned a visit to this winery where will we get to know Raventós i Blanc in all its details.

Today I will taste the Raventós i Blanc Blanc de Blancs 2017, a sparkling wine the Conca del Riu Anoia (They choose not to use the Cava DO as this description can be used for sparkling wines all over Spain, while Conca del Riu Anoia tells where this wine is made). An interesting choice where we will also want to know more about when we visit.

The wine I taste to they is created with three native grapes, Xarel·lo (40%), Macabeu (32%) and Parellada (28%). Raventós i Blanc is a biodynamic farm and lets each bottle of wine age for the second fermentation in the bottle for at least 18 months. They have not added any expedition liquor to the bottle. After this, I really can’t wait to taste it, but before that let’s look at some facts.

My Notes:

Pears and green apples straight from the start. I also get some biscuits, yeast, lemon as well as a hint of lime.
Further on there is honey, cranberry, pineapple and an interesting mineral influence. A lovely “cava”, one of the better ones. Great bubbles, very frizzy. A wine that makes me want to try it more, as well as discover more expressions from the winery.

Grape Dummies Score:

4,0 Grapes
