Raventós i Blanc Blanc de Blancs 2019

Raventós i Blanc Blanc de Blancs 2019

In our second month of writing reviews here for the GrapeDummies, I made a review of the Raventós I Blanc Blanc de Blancs 2017 (check out our review here), now almost two years later it’s time to taste the same wine, but the 2019 vintage.

As the name tells us the Blanc de Blancs is made exclusively with (native) white grape varieties, and an interesting change between the 2017 releases and this years’ is the addition of a new grape. The Malvasia de Sitges. This grape variety almost disappeared but Raventós i Blanc did their best to recover it with 1.5 Ha in their La Plana vineyard.

The Malvasia de Sitges is difficult in viticulture, but it has a very high natural acidity, acting in the wine as a natural acidifier, and also giving it more volume. The 2019 Blanc contains 40% Xarel·lo, 39% Macabeu, 15% Parellada and 6% Malvasia de Sitges.

My notes:

I’ve tasted the ‘17 and the ‘18 before and now with the ‘19 I can say Raventós i Blanc are very consistent with this release. There are beautiful minerals, honey, toast, yeast, pear and lemon. Brioche, passion fruit even with some savory touches. Strawberry, straw and cranberry. A great sparkling wine, with some 6% of Malvasia de Sitges on top of the 3 traditional Spanish sparkling wine grapes! Recommended for the upcoming holiday season!
