Regina Viarum Via Appia 2020

Regina Viarum Via Appia 2020

North of Portugal you can find the region of Galicia, in Spain. This is where we go for this week’s review of the Regina Viarum Via Appia 2020 a wine from the Ribeira Sacra DO.

Regina Viarum has its vineyards located on terraces on the banks of the Sil river. Here the vines grow on slopes with more than 45 degrees angles. This wine is made with 100% Mencía grapes, with natural fermentation on the lees.

For me, this is a wine of firsts, the first Mencía, and the first Ribeira Sacra. So now let’s time to taste!

My notes:

This is a light and fruity red wine from the Ribeira Sacra. There is cherry, black pepper and some strawberry. Raspberry, and plum as well. Further a mineral note, and some leather.

Attractive lighter style red. I combined this with some calçots, a great combo!

It’s nice to find new regions to explore, and I’ll make sure to go back to the Ribeira Sacra to taste some more wines!
