Rutini Cabernet – Malbec 2019

Rutini Cabernet – Malbec 2019

Time for another new world wine this week. We taste the Rutini Cabernet – Malbec 2019 from Argentina. The Rutini winery started in 1925 in the Uco Valley in Mendoza. Over the years they expanded greatly since its beginnings.

They use a wide variety of grapes, which they offer on the market both as single & bi-varietals, as well as blends of more grapes. Today I will taste one of their bi-varietals, the Cabernet – Malbec.

This wine uses the two originally French grapes in equal proportions, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Malbec, The wine is aged for 12 months in both new French oak, as well as refilled barrels.

My notes:

There are nice spicy notes of pepper and nutmeg combined with fig, balsamic, raisin, licorice and dark chocolate. A touch of oak, cherry, blackcurrant and plum. Further, I also get some leather, blackberry, dried fig and prunes and a touch of coffee. A great marriage of flavours! Highly recommended. This was the first wine I tried from the Rutini winery, but I’ll be looking to try more in the future.
