Siós Cau del Gat 2016

Siós Cau del Gat 2016

Siós Cau del Gat is this week’s wine. Another wine from the Costers del Segre region in Spain, especially in these difficult times I’m happy to support local producers. Now I know this winery is close to home but I’ve never had the opportunity to visit them. But who knows, if I like this wine I might try to visit them in the future!

This wine is a blend of 70% Garnacha, 20% Tempranillo and 10% Syrah, further, harvested at the end of September and fermented in stainless steel vats. To continue it’s matured for 9 months in 300l French oak barrels, after which it matures for at least another 6 months in the bottle.

My notes:

This wine is amazingly fruity on the nose to start with. Raspberry, plum, fig, blueberry and lavender come to mind. On the palate, it’s bold and full with pepper, mint, tobacco, star anise and dried herbs, all married together with cherry, strawberry and a hint of balsamic. A lovely wine that I will want to buy again!
