Today’s Special Appassimento 2019

Today’s Special Appassimento 2019

Again we’re in the region Puglia in Italy to check out a new wine. An interesting picture with a cow on the front of the label got my intention because I like a good wine with a piece of quality meat. So I ordered this wine a while ago and hopefully, it was a good combination.

The Today’s Special Appassimento 2019 is made from four different grapes; 50% Negroamaro, 20% Merlot, 20% Primitivo and 10% Malvasia. The wine is made by the traditional drying process, the Appassimento method. This process creates a stronger sugar concentration, which leads to a little bit higher alcohol percentage during fermentation. The grapes have been picked by hand on selected vineyards in the beginning of October. The wine is bottled by Weinhaus Globus Wine A/S in Denmark. Unfortunately, there is no further information about the vineyards for this wine and on the website from Globus wine you can’t find any information about today’s wine.

My Notes:

You can immediately notice the sugar concentration process this wine has reached during the fermentation. The wine looks a little bit sweater by looking at the tears in the glass and while tasting you notice a little bit sweeter taste. The colour of the wine is a slight bit lighter than I’m used to with a Primitivo wine. The wine is fruity like red cherries and black fruit. Maybe some prune, further oaky notes in the nose and a little pepper. Soft tannins and a good balance. For me a little bit to flatten in the mouth, because of the sweetness. Good for a one-time adventure.

Grape Dummies Score:

3.5 Grapes
