Llenca Plana 2017

Llenca Plana 2017

This week we’re going to taste Llenca Plana from Terra de Falanis. A Spanish red wine from the Montsant region. The Montsant is perhaps not the most famous Spanish region, but it’s one to keep an eye out for! This was one of the first red’s I tasted from there, and make sure to keep come back for more reviews in the future.

Llenca Plana is translated as flat stones, referring to the stones that are found on the land where the vines grow. This is a blend of 70% Carinyena and 30% Garnatxa, matured for 6 months in French and American oak barrels, a combination that often works great in similar wines from these parts of Spain. Let’s find out if that’s now also the case.

My Notes:

Lovely Montsant, remembering me of the minerals from some of the nearby Priorats. Leather, earthy, mixed well with dark fruit like plum, blackberry as well as some raspberry. There some raining, almonds, butter and a touch of pepper. Oak and cedar can be found with some yeast and cheese on the nose. Cherry and strawberry I taste on the palate with a touch of prunes. Nice blend of Carinyena and Garnatxa, and that for a great price!

Grape Dummies Score:

4,5 Grapes
